Back Brace for Low Back Pain:
support while the low back heals
A back brace circles the lower back and belly, with a rigid insert running up the spine, sized and adjusted on you. It supports the low back through healing, especially while sitting, standing for long periods or lifting.
Your physician orders this equipment, and we fit it to you before you go home.
What is back brace?
A support that circles the lower back and belly, with a rigid insert running up the spine. We size it and adjust it on you.
What it does for you
It steadies the low back through healing, most of all while sitting, standing for long periods or lifting.
Its role around regenerative treatment
A brace supports; it does not strengthen. It can protect a treated spine for the period your physician sets, but the exercises keep going, because muscle is what carries the load over the long run.
The right fit and feel
Close-fitting but never tight. Deep breaths stay easy, and a pair of fingers can still slip under the border.
Daily use and upkeep
A thin, fitted shirt goes underneath; the brace never touches bare skin. It comes off to bathe and overnight unless your physician says otherwise. Inspect your skin at the start and end of each day. The home exercises continue.
Reasons to phone the clinic
- New numbness or tingling down the legs
- Sores or blisters
- Trouble taking a full breath while it is on
Fitting happens here: we size the item, you practice wearing and removing it while we watch, and printed steps go home with you. Phone (314) 295-3000 if it hurts, fits poorly or breaks.
How long you use it
Wear time follows your physician’s written order.
What to remember
- A pair of fingers fits under the border.
- Thin shirt underneath, always.
- The brace supports; your exercises build.
Show us you have it: Before you go, fasten it and remove it once in front of us. If a point is fuzzy, say so and we walk through it again with you.
