Laser Therapy:
light that reaches the injured tissue
Laser therapy aims a beam from a Class 3B or Class 4 handheld unit, whichever your physician specifies, at the painful area. Injured cells absorb that light, and pain and swelling ease.
This one runs only on a physician’s written order, at the intensity that order specifies.
What is laser therapy?
A technician sweeps a handheld laser over the painful area. Your physician’s order specifies a Class 3B or a Class 4 device.
What it does for you
Injured cells take in that light, which settles pain and puffiness.
Its role around regenerative treatment
Depth and dose decide whether light does anything at all. A clinical laser reaches deeper structures than a home red light panel, which is why your physician orders and doses it as part of preparing tissue.
The sensation, moment to moment
Gentle warmth or nothing you notice. Both you and your technician wear eye protection matched to that specific laser. The handpiece keeps gliding, with a heat check every minute, inside a closed room posted with a warning sign.
Timed and attended: your technician never leaves, and writes down the minute you begin and the minute you finish.
When this treatment is off the table
- Pointing the beam at an eye, with or without goggles
- The thyroid region of the lower neck
- Across the belly or low back in pregnancy
- A cancer at the treatment site
- Photosensitizing medication
- Ink or a dark mole on the spot, until your physician decides
Your technician reads the safety questions aloud at every visit, and any change in your answers goes to the physician before a treatment starts. You may call a stop whenever you like.
Time involved
Budget about 5 minutes per area; most visits total near 10. The order sets the clock, not the machine.
What to remember
- Eye protection on until the laser is off.
- Gentle warmth is normal; heat that stings is not.
- Report new prescriptions; a few make skin burn in light.
Show us you have it: Before you go, describe what you would feel that would make you call a stop. If a point is fuzzy, say so and we walk through it again with you.
